AHHHHH...I did it!!!

The Play kitchen is done!!! You may remember that a few weeks ago Jane from Out of the Crayon Box was offering a "build a play kitchen" build along. I was up for it!!

I am in total love. I want to make more!! This was such a fun and surprisingly easy project. I was sooo prepared for it to take forever and get me totally flustered, but it didn't.
I love the color! It's a lavender color. Very hard to photograph! Using the Rust-Oleum Painters Touch lilac. One can was all I needed to cover my little dresser.

Remember...this is my garage project, since it's for my daughter for Christmas...hence the ugliness of the background behind the adorable kitchen...they really don't go together, do they?!

Now, I have a few questions to pose to you. My burners are to the far right because I thought about doing some type of grill strips on the left. Another set of burners just wouldn't fit. So I ask you...Do you think grill strips would look silly? Should I leave it the way it is?


This is how I attached the cabinet door to the little nightstand. Extra 1 x 2, some screws and of course gorilla glue!!

Spray painting queen, that is.

I have always loved the idea of transformation! It comes in many forms. You can transform your mind, body nature and my favorite...home decor!!!


I've been lurking aroung blogworld for awhile now and have been witness to some of these transformations, seen here, here, and here. So I've been stalking my local thrift stores just trying to find something worthy of painting. I finally found it! This BIG, metal, ugly brown {not bronze} looking flower wall sculpture. Price tag...$7 on sale for 1/2 off! Total $3.50!!!

It may not be fantastic, but it was a great first project.

Thrift shopping at it's best!

Ever since I made this wool sweater for Kelly, I have been obsessed on finding more wool sweaters. So I went to my local thrift store on the weekly day when ALL clothing is 1/2 price and scoured every rack for good deals on wool sweaters.

At first I thought there wouldn't be too many because it's winter and everyone would be looking for warm clothing, but nooooo. I had plenty to choose from! Take a look at all the sweaters I got. 9 sweaters in all, and I only paid $31. That's right $31. So if things are a little tight with your purse strings, like they are with mine don't be afraid to thrift. You can find lots of great deals.

As it turns out a number of these are actually being worn (unaltered) by Jack. He's gotten so big at 12 1/2 he can wear mens size clothing. I don't know how many of these will get a new look, but I can't wait to do at least one more for Kelly.

My felted wool sweater!

After reading this post over at The Sky is Pink, it reminded me that I had seen this episode of Martha, and always wanted to try and make a sweater. First take a felted wool sweater (mine was $2.50 after the 1/2 off discount on Wednesdays only at my local thrift store), some felting needles, and a foam or bristle brush pad.

I forgot to take a picture, but it was a man's large, before I felted it. So I cut up the felted sweater, sewed it into Kelly size and ordered some roving from my good friend Lindsay at Etsy. I had the felting needles and backing because I have a thing for felt, as some of you may know.

So this is how it turned out. It took some time, but was so much fun to do!! The supplies aren't all that expensive if you want to try it! I bought mine here.
